Pope Pius X was born Giuseppe Melchiorre Sarto on June 2nd, 1835 and died on August 20th, 1914. He was head of the Catholic Church from August 4th, 1903 until his death in August 1914. He is known for vigorously opposing modernist interpretations of Catholic doctrine, and for promoting liturgical reforms and scholastic theology. Pope Pius X was devoted to the Blessed Virgin Mary under the title of Our Lady of Confidence.
