Upcoming Marian Conference in Rome Will Address Our Lady’s Vital Role in Catholic Life

An important international Marian conference, titled De Maria numquam satis (“Of Mary, One Can Never Say Enough”), will be held in Rome on October 7-8, 2026. The event will take place at the Augustinian Patristic Institute, adjacent to the Vatican.

The conference will bring together distinguished cardinals, theologians, historians, and scholars from several countries. The speakers will offer in-depth reflections on the mystery of the Blessed Virgin Mary as articulated in Catholic doctrine, worship, and history.

The conference takes its title from the celebrated maxim traditionally attributed to Saint Bernard of Clairvaux. It reflects the Church's perennial conviction that opportunities to reflect on the Blessed Virgin are inexhaustible.

Mary’s singular mission in the mystery of Christ and His Church continually opens new horizons for understanding the faith. This understanding makes Mariology one of the richest and most fruitful fields within Catholic theology.

The symposium will pay homage to the Mother of God at a time when her unique role in salvation history is too often neglected or misunderstood. The organizers hope that the conference will contribute to a renewed appreciation of authentic Marian doctrine, increased Marian devotion and encourage the growth of a vibrant Marian movement among clergy, religious and lay faithful.

The conference will open on the evening of October 6 at the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary with Solemn Vespers in her honor. The presider will be His Excellency Anthony Colin Fisher, the Archbishop of Sydney.

The organizers divided the academic sessions into two complementary themes. The first day, held on the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, is dedicated to “The Mystery of Mary in Dogma and the Magisterium.” Participants will examine the doctrinal foundations of Marian teaching and the Church’s magisterial tradition.

The second day’s theme will be “Mary in Worship, Devotion and History.” Attendees will explore the historical development of Marian devotion. The program will also include a demonstration of how the Church’s faith has been expressed throughout the centuries, continually revealing new aspects of the mystery of the Mother of God.

Among the principal speakers will be Cardinal Raymond Leo Burke, Cardinal Gerhard Ludwig Müller, Dominican Father Wojciech Giertych, theologian of the Papal Household; the renowned German Mariologist Professor Manfred Hauke; Mgsr. Rudolf Michael Schmitz, Vicar General of the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest; and several distinguished theologians and scholars.

José Antonio Ureta of the French Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family and Property (TFP) will speak on “Marian Devotion in Latin America.”

The organizers acknowledge that these themes capture only a small part of the immense richness of Marian theology. This conference aims to provide a starting point for renewed theological research and deeper devotion to the Mother of God.

Clergy, religious, and lay faithful are warmly invited to participate in this significant international gathering. It promises to be an important contribution to contemporary Catholic Mariology and to Mary’s role in the life of the Church.
